2016 Federal Tax Return

Provided that you are filing on a calendar year basis, the due date to file your tax return is April 18th. However, if you are living outside the U.S. on April 18th, you are eligible for the automatic 2-month extension of time to file which sets the deadline to June 18th.

June 16, 2017

2016 Federal Tax Return

If you need more time to file the federal tax return, you can file form 4868 before June 16th and request an additional extension until October 16th without any further explanation.

October 16, 2017

2016 Federal Tax Return

Last day to file a 2016 Federal Income Tax Return for Tax Extension filers.

Last day to request a discretionary 2-month additional extension of time to file your tax return if you live outside of the U.S. However, unlike in the above cases, for this extension you will have to explain in the latter the reasons why you need the additional two months.

No Deadline

Previous Year Tax Returns

You can file a Tax Return for a previous tax year anytime, but you can only claim a refund within 3 years of the original tax deadline. They can only be prepared and filed via mail.

You can file an Amended Return to pay taxes due anytime, but you generally have a deadline of 3 years from the original due date to claim a tax refund.
